THE DARK ART OF NICO CLAUX
His series of portraits of mug shots of famous serial killers and modern vampires became a classic among collectors of prison art. The paintings are a reflection on crime as a product of a society based on consumerism, where the killer has achieved the same media status as the movie star. Nico's pantheon of mug shots reveals the killers of today as being the modern equivalent of ancient Greece 's half gods, real life archetypes of something beyond humanity. The titanium white faces contrast with the blood red backgrounds, giving an almost ghostly appearance to the portraits. Nico's work can be found in various galleries in Europe and the United States . Rock stars, other famous artists and professional art collectors own his works. Nico has illustrated several magazines and books. His series of portraits of human predators is entirely reproduced in Sondra London's "True Vampires", and he is currently collaborating to a couple of documentaries on his life and artworks.
